The Blackfalds Wranglers completed their two-game sweep of the Ponoka Stampeders on Friday night with a 5-2 win on the road.

Defenceman Shawn Rowe led Blackfalds offensively, scoring two goals and recording two assists. Landon Siegle, Braden Olsen and Dylan Scheunert also scored for the Wranglers.

The game was physical, with plenty of hits and players taking shots at each other behind the play.

“It’s like any other hockey team. They have their way of getting under your skin and bugging you and making ... your emotions show,” said Rowe. “At the end of the day, it’s how you control them and what you guys do as a team and how you regroup from it.”

Blackfalds lost both games it played in Ponoka. Rowe said they needed a good effort to clinch the series on the road.

“We needed to win here. We didn’t want it to go to a Game 3. We did that last year and it was a tough one then,” he said. “This year, it was a lot nicer to be able to finish the series in two games and now we have a break.”

The Wranglers will now play a best-of-five against the Airdrie Thunder, who have home-ice advantage. Game 1 is on Wednesday night.
