If fans were looking for offence in game-one of the Vanberg Cup Finals, then they were at the right place Friday night in Lacombe.

The Lacombe Generals defeated the Devon Barons 7-6 to take a lead in their best-of-seven series.

Devon started the scoring in the first period which would eventually have five different goal scorers. Scoring for Lacombe were Thomas Beretta, Taylor Mulder, and Colin Zimmer.

The second period would continue with more scoring, two goals from Devon and two more from Lacombe to finish off the middle frame with the Gens leading 5-4. Thomas Beretta would get his second of the game and TJ Brown his first.

The Barons would take the lead in the third after two more goals, but a power play goal from Luke Coleman in the last minutes of the game would then tie it up again 6-6.

Then at the 13:34 mark of overtime Scott Doucet would take a pass from Jamie Johnson to win the game for Lacombe.

Mackenzie Engel would stop 31 of 37 shots for the Generals who will now hit the road today (Saturday) to play in Devon.  That game starts at 7:00 pm.
