Jade and Tyla Lee,  two sisters from Red Deer, are celebrating after winning silver medals in softball for Team Alberta in the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Team Alberta lost 10-3 to Team BC, but Tyla said she was thrilled with silver.

“It was very exciting. I don’ think Alberta was thought to go this far so I think we definitely went farther than everyone thought we would have. It wasn’t the best to lose, but it was definitely good to get second.”

Unfortunately, Jade had to leave the tournament early to go back to Kennesaw State for school, but is still getting a medal.

Never playing on the same, younger sister Tyla said it was great playing with the person she grew up idolizing.

“This was the first time me and Jade ever played together so it was definitely good because she’s always been a role model for me and playing with her by my side was really great.”

“To play with my hero was really fun.”

As for competition, Tyla said it was a great experience and was able to keep her nerves under check.

“I don’t usually get nervous. It was okay for me, but I’m sure the nerves were running through a couple of girls. It was great getting to play in front of all the fans.”

With Tyla heading to Iowa Western next year, she’s hoping playing for Team Alberta will help her with the transition.

“This is the biggest event I’ve been to in my career. I’m moving onto college next year so I think it will definitely help me be more comfortable when I’m there with being away from home. Also, playing in a big game will help with what’s coming up.”

At 17-years-old Tyla was the youngest player on Team Alberta.
