Red Deer could potentially be the new home for the Canadian Finals Rodeo.

In partnership with the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce, Westerner Park is in its final stage of reviewing a business case supporting the presentation of a multi-year proposal to the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association.

Westerner Park’s CEO and General Manager Ben Antifaiff said it’s something they’re really excited about and believes Red Deer is the perfect fit.

“Both the Chamber and Westerner Park have a long history in Central Alberta in providing excellent service. For us again it’s natural, we do celebrations well at Westerner Park, so it’s a good fit.”

Antifaiff said the decision could come very soon and outlines the benefits.

“I would say in the next month, we’ll have our work done to support the validity of our potential proposal and from there we hope to have a further conversation. If things look good, we may have the announcement before the end of the year.”

“This event would generate significant economic impact throughout our community and Central Alberta, but also showcase our hospitality to host events of this scale.

CEO of Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce Robin Bobocel said it’s something he hopes the community gets behind.

“The magnitude of this event would be a community effort, which is why we are looking for the support and encouragement from our community as we work hard to bring the CFR to Red Deer and Central Alberta.”

The annual event takes place early next November and would be held at the ENMAX Centrium if a deal is reached.
