After a few days of uncertainty, the official word came down Wednesday afternoon from Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada, that the Lacombe Generals will host the 2019 Allan cup.

"After a thorough review of the submitted bids, I would like to congratulate the Lacombe Generals and their Host committee on being awarded this opportunity,” said Jamie Salm, Hockey Alberta’s Chair, Senior Hockey. “Hockey Alberta is looking forward to working with the hosts on what is sure to be an exciting week of hockey for fans across Alberta.”

General Manager of the Generals Jeff McInnis says they feel they know best how to host the Allan cup, and they are excited for the chance to show off Lacombe.

“We get to show to the rest of the country what we have going on in Lacombe and we are pretty excited about it. We know exactly how Allan cups should roll, because well, we’ve been to I think 11 of them. We know what it takes, we just have to now execute it, and we feel very confident that with our group we can do so.”

McInnis says this is also a chance to show the residents of Lacombe the best hockey Canadian Men’s AAA has to offer.

“We’re going to get to see our game at the highest level, and we don’t always get to see that here. You see regular season games, you see playoffs games, and then we leave. So to be able to see the national championships played in our community is pretty special. The level of the game goes up, it’s hard to describe until you’ve seen it but the hockey is just so wonderful, and the focus on our community is great, and our facility will be shown off.”

The 2019 Allan Cup Games will be played at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex in April.

This year’s Allan Cup is set for April 9th to the 18th in Rosetown, SK.
