The Central Alberta Sting U-19AA  team won bronze at the Ice Breaker Tournament after a 4-3 overtime victory over Zone 5 on Sunday morning.

Red Deer’s Emily LaMasurier scored the game-winning goal with 3:20 left in the extra frame, on home ice at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex.

“I thought we played we played pretty good. The semifinal game for away from us though. We were tied then we ended up losing. It was a good effort by the team this weekend,” LaMasurier said post-game.

The Sting took a 3-1 lead into the second half, with goals from Kianna Doyle, Rachel Vandervlis and Sydney Cherniak.

“I was a little bit nervous when they tied it up but then as soon as we got into overtime and we had control … I wasn't very nervous anymore,” LaMasurier said.

It's the team's second medal of the season for the U-19AAs, after taking silver at the Woods Tournament in Edmonton.

In November, they played adult competition in an open tournament in Regina, narrowly missing bronze.

Also at the Ice Breaker Tournament, the U-16AAs finished fourth; the U-14AAs finished sixth.
