Artwork is now on display at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC) for the Student Art Exhibition and Competition.

Artwork from junior and senior high school students throughout the Wolf Creek Public School division will be on display until April 27, as part of the Encore Art Show and Sale.

“People can expect to see everything. There's paperwork, there's an incredible piece that's done with masking tape on a light box, there’s drawings and there's painting,” said Maureen Mackenzie, Arts and Culture and Cemetery Coordinator. “There's a vast array of different forms of artwork. There should be something for everybody there.

There are four main art awards including the Jan Holoboff Jr. High School Student Art Award, Charlie Donald Memorial Sr. High School Student Art Award, Bob Creurer Memorial Mixed Media / Abstract Student Art Award, and the Dustin Peers Memorial Student Drawing Award.

This year, there is a new People’s Choice award, where viewers can vote on their favourite piece.

Mackenzie explained that the student exhibition was moved to the LMC and displayed earlier than in previous years, to give the community an opportunity to view the artwork.

“We have 44 pieces, and they are extraordinary. The talents of students are absolutely mind-blowing. People are absolutely blown away by how talented these kids are,” Mackenzie said. “They have some incredible art teachers in the Wolf Creek School division, and we have to give them some kudos because they help the students with the basics and then let the kids create what's dear to their hearts, which is really important.”

The Encore Art Show not only features local artists and student artwork, but also an Artist Paint Off, where artists will be painting at the event for an online auction.

The online auction will close on May 10, with the funds raised going to support the Lacombe Arts Endowment fund.
