Notre Dame High School has a new banner to hang in their gym.

For the second straight year, the school is provincial champions in Badminton.

Notre Dame finished with 55 points, 11 more than second place Crescent Heights out of Calgary.

Points were calculated from games in Singles, Double and Mixed Doubles, in both Boys and Girls.

To be able to win back-to-back years is something Head Coach Leroy Stanisclaus said means a lot to him and his athletes.

‘It means 10 times more than last year, just because the competition was way higher, the stakes were way higher and it was just better badminton.”

“For us, we know we can compete at that level and it means way more to us as a school. I’m proud of the kids at Notre Dame.”

Winning provincials at home means that much more to Stanisclaus.

“The best feeling ever. Going to Edmonton last year and winning, we were happy to walk away with a banner, but being home and winning at home is the greatest feeling ever,” said Stanisclaus.

“The last week we trained them so hard and really pushed for this banner. It’s amazing.”

Tyler Watt, won a silver in Junior Boys Doubles, and said competition was tough, but totally worth it.

“It was a nice loud environment out here, it was good crowd support and it was just fun to play this weekend.”

“There was a lot of good teams here in Alberta. Alberta is one of the best (provinces) in Canada for badminton, the competition was great.”

Notre Dame competed in the 4A class, which represents the largest high schools in Alberta.
