A happy ending for a brief search and rescue mission near Crescent Falls, after a 17-year-old male was reunited with their family over the weekend.

On August 6th, numerous Search and Rescue teams, fire supports, AB forestry and AG and Alstrom Air came together to find the teen in a matter of hours.

Officers say the teen with delayed cognitive abilities was separated from his family and wandered away from them during a camping trip.

The teen was announced missing at 8:45 a.m. and was found a few kilometres away by 12:30p.m. that same day.

Rocky Mountain House Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale said they were extremely grateful for the help of all those involved in safely reuniting the young person with their family.

On August 6, the RCMP collaborated with several other agencies, including; Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue, Nordegg Search and Rescue, Alberta Forestry and Agriculture, Clearwater Fire Department and Alstrom Air to locate a missing teen.

At 8:45 a.m. the RCMP responded to a missing person complaint at a campground near Crescent Falls.  A 17-year-old youth, with delayed cognitive abilities, was lost, believed to have wandered into the woods. He had been missing for over an hour prior to the call for assistance and his family was very worried.

At 12:30 p.m., Search and Rescue members located the teen approximately four kilometres away from the campsite.  Alstrom Air voluntarily provided support by flying the teen, in one of their helicopters, back to the staging area where he was happily reunited with his family.

“We want to extend kudos to the Search and Rescue teams and Alstrom Air who facilitated this successful outcome” says Staff Sergeant Carl Dinsdale of Rocky Mountain House RCMP.  “This community continues to impress me with their willingness to step up and help out.”
