Late on December 16th, Ponoka RCMP received a 9-1-1 call that a female was assaulted and had her personal items stolen.

Through further investigation at the scene of the incident, police determined that three suspects produced a machete and smashed the victim’s car window while she was sitting in the car where they stole cash, items, and her car keys and assaulted her. A bystander yelled intervened by yelling and the suspects fled the scene on foot.

With the help of Police Dog Services, the RCMP were able to locate arrest the three male suspects in Centennial Park.

23-year-old Cole Gerald Cattleman of Samson First Nation and 32-year-old Anthony Saddleback of Montana Firstnation has been jointly charged with the following:

  • Robery with a weapon
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Theft
  • Charges relating to breaches

The third 13-year-old male is facing seven criminal charges and have been released on an Undertaking to attend Youth Court.

Saddleback is scheduled to appear in court in Ponoka on January 15, 2021 while Cattleman is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on December 22, 2020.

“This event was another great example where timely and pertinent assistance provided by the public supported our officers” says Sergeant Erin St-Cyr of Ponoka RCMP.  “Information and surveillance video enabled our members to locate and apprehend these three male suspects before the situation escalated or evolved into something with a far more dire outcome.”
