When I was kid in Winnipeg, trick or treating in the late 60's and early 70's meant putting on your costume, and then over your costume went on your parka. So basically every kid on the block was dressed the same. I can remember that it always seemed very cold and we had 4 foot high snowbanks to navigate.

In my late teens, my costume ideas became more imaginative and sophisticated. One year I dressed as a shower, with actual running water, just like Ralph Macchio's character, Daniel LaRusso, in The Karate Kid. I thought for sure I'd win the Best Costume Contest and I didn't even place in the Top 3! To this day it was still my fave Halloween Costume even if I didn't win the little trophy and a free B52 Shooter.
