Westerner Park's Long Table Dinner has been a way for one of Central Alberta's largest agricultural societies to bring urban and rural people together through food.

They're doing it again, only the showcase of locally-sourced food now includes a tour of local farms and businesses.

Westerner Park's Ingrid Roughead says they include: the HGB Bison Ranch, Hidden Valley Garden and Troubled Monk Brewery.

“Food connects people and gets people talking. We all got to eat, right? So we just wanted to display that journey that local food has,” Roughead says.

“They’re successful businesses in their own right and display a variety of food and drinks. They’re traditional food and beverages but they’re becoming very popular again. They’re exciting to people who want to discover the central Alberta agricultural heritage.”

After the tour, guests will get to watch showjumping and listen to a performance by a string quartet from the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra.

The five-course dinner prepared by executive chef Jason Pederson will follow.

The event takes place August 18th.
