Sylvan Lakers passionate about the future vision for the lakeshore are invited to participate in a series of design and concept open houses this week.

The Town has started seeking public feedback with a public survey, and some community pop ups and presentations to date.

As Communication Officer Joanne Gaudet explains, the 3 days they have set aside Thursday through Saturday this week are part of a charrette process.

(L-R: Sylvan Lake mayor Sean McIntyre and Evan Goldstrom, planner for McElhanney Consulting Services, listen to feedback on SWARP on Feb. 17th)

“Participants provide feedback throughout these workshops, the activities are designed in such a way that we kind of get a live time concept that starts to be developed throughout the workshop and then at the end of the 3 days we’ve got a pretty clear concept in front of us as to what the community wants to see and do down on our waterfront.

She calls it one of their most extensive projects in terms of collaboration with the public.

“When we start on the 10th it’s really just going to be a presentation of design ideas or a vision.  When we get into the workshop it’s more of an intensive workshop so we’re going to be doing a number of exercises to create that future development concept and then as we progress all the way through to May 12th, we’re really going to have pretty refined development concept”.

(some of the feedback collected at a community pop up event Feb 17th)From there, administration will take the concept to a number of specialists to look at engineering and environmental elements to ensure it's feasible, and they'll present a more polished vision at a public open house in June.

The REIMAGINE project will culminate in an updated Sustainable Waterfront Area Redevelopment Plan (SWARP); the original plan was completed 10 years ago.

Two design workshops set for this week do require you to register , but there are 3 open house events.
