Around 150 people showed up to Scott Block Theatre downtown Red Deer this morning to celebrate the power of networking through social media.

Social Media Breakfast Red Deer hosted its 50th event which included guest speaker Mike Morrison, founder of SocialWest, the largest social media conference on the prairies.

Since 2012, the group has featured Alberta speakers on topics from marketing and branding to communication.

Team Lead for Social Media Breakfast Red Deer, Brenda Sargeant, said bringing in the likes of Morrison, has gone a long way into their success.

“We have a lot of entrepreneurs here, a lot of small business owners and it’s an opportunity for them to learn how to market their business better.”

“It’s also been crazy awesome for the connections and the collaborations that have been made by the people who attend this. We hear that often and that’s kind of like our key goal; the networking.”

This month, they had Morrison speak about the influence of marketing in business and personal branding.

“I love the idea of people coming together, sharing ideas, meeting like-minded people and seeing the power of social media together.”
