From Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools:

Pink Shirt Day is now a movement celebrated across the globe that encourages people to wear pink shirts to take a stand against bullying.

On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, people are encouraged to practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize taking a stand against bullying.

Since most schools in Red Deer County are closed the week of February 25-March 1 for the Canada Winter Games, many schools have chosen to participate throughout the month of February or early March.

St. Teresa of Avila School participated on February 20 with a variety of school-wide activities.

Older students paired up with their younger “buddy” student to complete the activities which included creating videos on the topic, spreading kind messages on lockers, modelling kindness (i.e. hold the door open for someone), learning how to develop kindness as a character trait, music, and a variety of other activities.

Participating schools this year include:

  • École Camille J. Lerouge School
  • École Secondaire Notre Dame High School
  • Holy Family School (March 13)
  • Holy Trinity Catholic School (February 27)
  • St. Dominic Catholic High School
  • St. Joseph High School
  • St. Gregory the Great Catholic School
  • St. Patrick's Community School
  • St. Teresa of Avila School

William, a Grade 5 student stated, “The world would be a better place through kindness. It’s a way of treating others that are different as equals.”
