The Matejka overpass in Ponoka County will be getting some road work done next year, after the county agreed to a proposal put forth by Alberta Transportation at Tuesday’s (October 24th) council meeting.

CAO of Ponoka county Charlie Cutforth explains.

“Alberta Transportation advised that they are doing an overlay on Highway 2, I believe next spring, and they requested that we partner in completing the overlay on the Matejka overpass section of the road that’s within the county’s jurisdiction.”

Cutforth says the road is not in the worst condition, but it's better to take advantage of the deal Alberta Transportation wants to make.

“It’ll certainly cost more if we do it as an isolated project down the road somewhere. The intention is that it be started in the spring and completed by early summer.”

The Matejka overpass is exit 446 on Township road 424 between Morningside and Ponoka.

Alberta Transportation will now handle further details, including hiring of a contractor.

The project will cost Ponoka County $142,000.
