Member of Parliament for Red Deer-Mountain View Earl Dreeshen has been busy hosting roundtable meetings with local stakeholders and constituents, to talk about unemployment.

A session in Olds last week addressed some of the hurdles according to the MP “really it was a talk about the regulations. There’s so many different types of regulations that are causing businesses to have difficulties and especially during these hard times right now where we have to be so flexible”.

Another focal point was competitiveness, and Dreeshen says staying competitive in global markets was a concern “and of course the concern about how we remain competitive in the world market when it would seem other actors are not taking the same approach as we are here in Canada. And of course when we see what is happening in the States as they make themselves more competitive, if we aren’t prepared to make some adjustments we at least have to be able to be aware of some of the other barriers we have arbitrarily put up”.

Dreeshen says many people voiced their approval of climate change action if other countries are doing the same, but if oil and gas competitors aren't bothering, neither should Canada.

The MP says he'll continue to host these roundtables before heading back to Ottawa to present his findings.
