Lacombe Composite High School is well represented at this week’s Skills Alberta Competition in Edmonton.

11 Students will be competing in areas including the culinary arts, cabinet making and carpentry, and photography.

One of the participants is Grade 10 student Kaitlyn Thomson, who will be competing in the baking category.

She doesn't want to get a head of herself, but says she's already thinking about Nationals.

“It would be a very hard one to reach but it would definitely be a dream of mine to go to Nationals one day that would be awesome. I never really thought of baking when I get older, but now that I am in skills it really opened up some different opportunities for me”.

Grade 12 student Tom Kunz earned a gold medal in cabinet making at regionals and says he's hoping for another one.

“I’ll just throw on my best Def Leppard t-shirt and like, I don’t know, throw some more pieces of wood together and I’ll be good to go, hopefully get another gold and go to Nationals”.

The Skills Alberta Competition takes place on May 10 and 11, for a chance to compete at Nationals from May 31- June 3 in Winnipeg.

Other students competing include Jace Bruce in carpentry, Lillea Kendrick and Shantalle Kehler in culinary arts, Derek Lange and Katelyn Schlahs in robotics, Jacob Pikkert and Vincent Stephenson in 3D character computer animation, Camryn Grant in photography and Sierra Thompson in auto body repair.
