Red Deer RCMP have concluded their investigation into an incident on Oyen Crescent in the Oriole Park neighbourhood, and have re-opened the area to residents.

At 10:22 am, Red Deer RCMP were called to a residence on Oyen Crescent in response to a report of a person in the residence with a firearm.

After thoroughly investigating the report, RCMP have determined that the call was a false report.

RCMP take all reports of potential public safety issues very seriously, and responded to the report with a large police presence including Police Dog Services; the police response including closing down the area to traffic and asking nearby residents to shelter in place.

The nearby Oriole Park School was placed in hold and secure as an added precaution.

RCMP are currently communicating with residents in the area to let them know the area has been re-opened and there is no public safety concern.

The hold and secure at Oriole Park School has also been lifted.

RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this false report to police, which has transitioned into a Public Mischief investigation.

No charges have been laid as of yet, and RCMP will issue an update if charges are laid.

RCMP thank the residents of Oriole Park for their understanding and patience during this disruption, and thank them for following police instructions so that RCMP could ensure the safety of the public.
