Kuhnen Park located north of Blackfalds, on the south shore of Lacombe Lake, will soon see a new bathroom facility worth nearly $48,000.

The cost is actually $3,000 less than one recently purchased for Anderson Park, thanks to a deal made by supplier,  Eagle Builders.

Driving up the cost is the material used, it's a heavy duty cement structure, which Manager of Operations for Lacombe County Phil Lodermeier says makes it easier to maintain, and more secure, ensuring they won't need to replace it for some time.

“We’re working with a local company and providing a vandalism proof bathroom for the Kuhnen Park area, which I think is a really nice addition to that area for people who want to use it. They (wood outhouses) get really hard to maintain and clean, and they sometimes start on fire or get tipped over.”

The reduction in price was offered given the washroom facility was built last year, and has sat in Eagle Builders lot since then.

Several other area parks and day use areas have the same style of cement bathroom outbuildings, such as Blindman and Lacombe Lake Day Use areas, and Rays Pond.

The new bathroom for Kuhnen park is expected to be installed next month.
