On March 13th,2017 at approximately 9:01 a.m. Innisfail RCMP Detachment and emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on HWY 2A just south of the HWY 42 intersection near Penhold.

The driver and lone occupant of a Grand AM travelling north lost control, and struck a south bound Honda Odyssey.

Responding officers found the Grand am was divided into two parts and its driver was pronounce deceased at the scene.

The driver and lone occupant of the Honda was transported by ambulance to the Red Deer Hospital with unknown injuries.

The identity of the deceased is not being release at this time.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor although speed and slippery sections may have contributed to the severity of this collision.

Innisfail RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.

At approximately 09:00 on Monday March 13 2017 Penhold Fire Department responded to a multi vehicle accident on Highway 2A about 50 meters south of Highway 42.

Penhold Acting Lieutenant Josh Wilson said “one vehicle (car) was blocking traffic in both directions and another vehicle (van) was partly in the west ditch."

Wilson went on to say "The driver from the van was extricated and transported in serious but non-life threatening condition to Red Deer Regional Hospital.”

A third vehicle was in the ditch and the driver was treated at the scene and release.

Highway 2A remained closed until 12:30pm.

There was 1 fatality on scene. Innisfail RCMP are investigating. 5 vehicles and 14 firefighters responded.
