The Whisker Rescue is now accepting donations for the annual Garage Sale fundraiser.

“All of the proceeds that we get from the sale provide medical and foster care for our rescue cats,” said Diane Webber, Whisker Rescue Garage Sale Coordinator.

The fundraiser started 25 years ago in a backyard and has continued to grow.

This year, the sale will be held at the Jackpot Casino, and Webber is excited to fill the empty rooms will items.

“This is very different because there are rooms, so the whole setup is going to be totally different, but I think people coming in on sale day are going to be pleasantly surprised,” she said.

Throughout the years, the sales have been received positively by the community, with more than 600 shoppers attending the sale last year.

“The community is amazing, and if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have a sale,” Webber said. “It's just very exciting because we hope that we do well for the cats and that is our main objective.”

This year, Webber has already received calls from Red Deer and area residents who are excited to donate their items or visit the sale.

“I've had so many phone calls already from people saying that they are downsizing, and can they bring their items to us,” she said. “People have been telling me that they have been storing things since last year.”

Donations of large appliances, electronics, clothing, and mattresses cannot be accepted. However, jewelry, ornaments, kitchen items, collectibles, furniture, pet leashes, dishes, and gardening tools will be accepted.

Item donations can be dropped off at the Jackpot Casino (4950 – 47 Ave Red Deer) between May 1 and 18, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The sale will be open from May 24 to 26.
