Parents are being asked to weigh in on a possible grade re-configuration for Terrace Ridge School.

Currently, the school is sitting at 108% capacity and that number is expected to rise over the next few years. The capacity of the school is 362 students, but for this school year, the number of students is already at 392.

Communications Coordinator for Wolf Creek Public Schools Vince Burke said they are managing that right now, but if the growth trend continues, it would begin to affect staff and students.

“Grade reconfiguration is simply analyzing what grades are currently offered at Terrace Ridge, and seeing if there is a possible movement for a grade or two to bring us more in line with what our utilization needs to be there,” Burke explained.

“We want to see if there are some areas within schools around Lacome that might be able to absorb those changes.”

Parents and guardians are asked to take part in the ThoughtExchange survey, which is an online tool that will help collect information on what might work best for families in the area.

“No concrete decision has been made. We want to gather input from staff, students and parents before that happens,” Burke said.

“Right now it’s managed, and Terrace Ridge has excellent staff that is doing very, very well. But that area of town has grown, and people are utilizing Terrace Ridge because it’s an excellent school and it continues to serve that growing part of the city.”

Parents and guardians are being asked to head to either the WCPS website or the Terrace Ridge websites and take the survey. As more families engage in the survey, a solution can be resolved by the board with the help of community members who would be affected by the decision.

The survey remains open until December 20th.
