Spring is around the corner, and that means this weekend we’re going to lose an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings Time (DST).

Don’t forget to set your clock an hour ahead tonight before you go to bed, as DST begins at 2 a.m.

While you are changing your clocks ahead, local fire departments suggest changing the batteries in smoke detectors in your home as well.

In 2019, Service Alberta asked residents if they wanted to shift to permanent DST. More than 141,000 Albertans responded and 91 per cent were in favour of year-round summer hours.

During the 2021 municipal election, the province explored making the switch, with 50.2 per cent of Albertans in favour of keeping DST, and 49.8 per cent in favour of changing it.
