Due to the increasing number of students and staff infected with COVID-19, Normandeau School sent a letter home stating that they will move temporarily to online learning.

In the letter sent yesterday (Monday, December 7th), Princial, Lisa Spicer says that the pandemic is having a big affect on their school.

"This is having a significant impact on our students and staff, both those who are now required to self isolate and learn from home, as well as those who remain learning at school. Currently we are approaching 50% of our students and staff required to self isolate, and we are seeing an increasing number of our families choosing to keep their children at home due to the rising case numbers"

Because of this Red Deer Public Schools  has requested and received permission from Alberta Education to move Normandeau School to Temporary Online Learning for all students through to December 18, 2020 inclusive.

This means students will not attend in-person classes, but rather all classes for all students will move temporarily online.

The move to Temporary Online Learning will include:

  • Online learning, paper-based packages, and teacher planned lessons will be used to continue with learning.
  • Teachers will contact students daily.
  • Class schedules and times remain similar and will take place using Google Meet. Students should expect to continue learning as scheduled on their current timetable.
  • Lesson materials will be posted on Google Classroom for student reference.
  • Access to teacher support will take place during regularly scheduled class time.
  • Students will have access to technology to access online learning or paper-based packages.
  • Parents of students with disabilities are encouraged to work with their teacher and school principal on appropriate arrangements to continue to provide students with services and support they need.
  • Attendance will be taken in all classes
  • All curricular outcomes will continue to be delivered.
  • No instruction time will be lost because of the shift to Temporary Online Learning.
