Grade six students tested their knowledge on Lacombe and new bylaws on Thursday as Mayors of the day.

The ‘Mayors’ did a tour of city hall, and were able to see what different council positions were like, as well as offer up some comments in a mock council meeting.

After the experience, one of the students, Mayor Miranda says she believes that working under the pressure of an entire city may not be in her cards.

“You might be thinking of all the decisions you could make, and you’d want to make everyone happy but sometimes you can’t, it would be really stressful, so I honestly don’t really think that I would,” explains Miranda with a smile.

The students were given the opportunity through writing an essay on what it would be like to be a mayor for a day and offering suggestions on decisions they would make in that position.

Mayor Grant Creasey says he was excited to see how wise the group was and says Lacombe has a bright future if it's in their hands.

“They were a very intelligent and insightful group and there were lots of very good comments in the meeting and throughout the tour.”

Creasey explains that if the group decides to grow their knowledge in the field than Lacombe has nothing to worry about.

“It’s pretty refreshing to know that we can maybe look forward to that in a few years, they were a very intelligent and resourceful group of youngsters.”

They do the mayor of a day activity every year.
