Central Albertans will spend the month of May getting physically active for a cause.

Cycle for Central Alberta, an event created by the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, helps raise funds for Children’s Rehabilitation Services, a facility in downtown Red Deer providing speech therapy, physical therapy, and other services to young people in the community.

“When you participate in Cycle for Central Alberta, you’re helping kids with no speech learn to say ‘mama’ or ‘dada’ for the first time and kids with physical difficulties achieve their dream of finally riding a bike with their friends,” said Manon Therriault, Foundation CEO.

This is not the first time Central Albertans have joined up with the Foundation to Cycle for Central Alberta, but it is the first time the event has existed as a month-long crowdfunding challenge.

From May 1st to 31st, riders will set their own fitness or distance goals and call on friends and family to donate to the cause – funding programs, services, and equipment for Children’s Rehabilitation Services in Red Deer.

“Avid cyclists have always participated, but we want to make sure everyone knows they can be a part of this exciting event, even if they don’t have a bike,” said Therriault. “Join a spin class, race, find a trail – how you ride is up to you.”
