During the November 9th COVID-19 Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced that the Government of Alberta’s dashboards have been repaired over the course of the weekend.

Some data continues to be reconciled including the total overall testing numbers.

The updated data puts the following areas under enhanced watch in Central Alberta:

  • Ponoka County
  • The City of Red Deer
  • The City of Lacombe
  • The Town of Sylvan Lake
  • Mountain View County

These areas will be subject to the mandatory 15 person group gathering maximum.

These limits include all social gatherings, such as:

  • all indoor and outdoor gatherings
  • banquets and award ceremonies
  • wedding or funeral receptions
  • luncheons or potlucks
  • parties: birthday, baby showers, retirement, dinners, backyard BBQs
  • other private social gatherings and functions

These limits DO NOT include structured events, such as:

  • seated-audience sports/shows
  • conferences
  • fitness centres
  • funeral service
  • in-person dining in restaurants
  • wedding ceremonies
  • worship services

Voluntary Measures

  • Limit your cohorts to no more than 3: your core household, your school, and one other sport or social cohort. Young children who attend child care could be part of 4 cohorts, given that child care settings have not been a high risk for spread.
  • Wear a mask in all indoor work settings, except when alone in a workspace like an office or cubicle where you are safely distanced from others, or an appropriate barrier is in place.

As Remembrance Day approaches Dr. Hinshaw recommends that people take extra care to be safe as they choose to remember. Guidance on Remembrance Day has been provided by the Alberta government that can be found here.

“If any of us are feeling unwell, we need to stay home and recognize this day privately,” said Hinshaw.

Diwali will also follow Remembrance Day on Saturday, November 14th.

“I am not asking you to stop celebrating this occasion but it is essential that we consider COVID-19 while planning and attending any events. Please do not plan to host anyone at your home who does not live with you and please do not attend a gathering at a home where you do not live,” said Hinshaw.

The doctor noted that she is deeply concerned by Alberta’s numbers who fears further impacts to the health care system will happen in the near future.

“If you have not gotten sick and you don’t know anybody who has then you must do everything possible to keep it that way. We all have a role to play in suppressing transmission. Together, we have the power to lower our case counts,” said Hinshaw.
