Red Deer RCMP have arrested a man following an incident at Bower Place.

On Apr. 27th, 2023, at around 11:00 a.m., Red Deer RCMP responded to a call from the public of a man acting erratically and spraying themselves in the eye with perfume.

Officers went to Bower Place and asked the suspect to leave the premises. When he refused to exit the mall, he was placed under arrest. The suspect became agitated and approached the officer, the officer attempted to gain control of the suspect but the male became increasingly combative towards the officer.

After multiple demands to stop, the suspect refused, leading to the member discharging a conducted energy weapon (CEW). The male was then taken into custody with no further issues.

A 38-year-old resident of Red Deer has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault on Police Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Mischief – obstruct enjoyment of property

As charges are not yet sworn before the courts a name cannot be released. An update will follow once it has been.
