In the spirit of Halloween, witches, devils and medieval creatures filled the lower level of Witches Ink in Red Deer this past weekend for a unique type of market.

Dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes, local vendors had a chance to show off some of their homemade art and creations at the Halloween Red Deer Witches Market on Saturday.

Everything from gem stones to traditional witchy wares to even tarot card readings were on display.

Owner of Witches Ink Santana Friesen, who hosted the event, also used the market as a fundraiser for Off The W.A.L Animal Rescue.

“I’ve always done something with animals. I’ve been doing animal nutrition and behavior for over ten years so it goes hand in hand and I always believe in giving back to charity. Every market we do, I’ll always do a charity to go with it and that was our designated charity.”

Over 30 local businesses took part in the event with over 300 visitors.

Friesen said she was blown with all the support the event received.

“It’s insane, absolutely fantastic. I love our community and I’m always thrilled about how much work all these girls put into the market itself and spreading the word. It’s a team effort, all 33 people all sharing and getting the word out.”

Homemade masks, jewelry and wands were also on display at the market.

Friesen has hosted multiple markets in the past, but this was the first of its kind.
