The Wetaskiwin RCMP have laid charges following a vehicle theft, followed by a residential break enter where another vehicle was stolen.  

The second stolen vehicle was involved in a pursuit when it ultimately crashed.  

Five people were arrested and four of those people are facing charges. 

On August 18th 2017 the Wetaskiwin RCMP were notified of a vehicle theft and just after midnight, on August 19, following a tip from the public, the Wetaskiwin RCMP located the stolen vehicle in Wetaskiwin.  

Police arrested two individuals on scene and two suspects fled on foot from police.  

A short time later the Wetaskiwin RCMP were notified of a break and enter where a Chevrolet Cobalt was stolen from a garage.  

Again, with the assistance of the public, the Wetaskiwin RCMP located the stolen vehicle as it was leaving Wetaskiwin on Highway 13 and attempts to stop it were made.  

This resulted in the stolen vehicle ramming a police vehicle and fleeing.  

A short pursuit was initiated which ended when the stolen Chevrolet Cobalt lost control on Range Road 252 and rolled multiple times, coming to rest in the ditch.

Three occupants in the vehicle were arrested on scene.    

No one was injured.  

Four of the individuals are facing charges, a fifth person (adult) was released without charge.  

18 year old Brandon JOHNSON-GREENE of Wetaskiwin faces the following charges:

•       Breaking and entering and committing theft - 348(1)(b) of Criminal Code

•       Operation of motor vehicle while being pursued by police - 249.1(1) of Criminal Code

•       Impaired operation of a motor vehicle - 253(1)(a) of Criminal Code

•       Operating motor vehicle over 80mg% - 253(1)(b) of Criminal Code

•       Assault on police officer with a weapon - 270.01(2) of Criminal Code

•       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00

•       Fail to comply with undertaking/recognizance x6 - 145(3) of Criminal Code

•       Drive uninsured motor vehicle on highway x2 - 54(1)(a) of TSA

•       Operate motor vehicle without holding subsisting operator’s licence - 51(a) of TSA

•       Fail to remain at scene of accident - 69(1)(a) of TSA 

18 year old Travis SOOSAY from Maskwacis is charged with:

•       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 - 354(1)(a) of Criminal Code

•       Fail to comply with recognizance - 145(3) of Criminal Code A 23 year old female from Maskwacis is charged with:

•       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 - 354(1)(a) of Criminal Code

Charges have not been sworn against the female and as a result, she cannot be identified. 

A 16 year old young offender from Maskwacis is charged with:

•       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 - 354(1)(a) of Criminal Code 

Brandon JOHNSON-GREENE was remanded for court on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 8:30 am. 

Travis SOOSAY has been released on a recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court in Wetaskiwin on September 12, 2017 at 8:30 am. 

The 23 year old female was released on a promise to appear for court in Wetaskiwin on September 29, 2017 at 8:30 am. 

The 16 year old youth was released on a Youth Promise To Appear for court in Wetaskiwin on October 4, 2017 at 9:30am.
