As we approach nomination day for the 2017 municipal election, we know that current Lacombe City Councillor Wayne Armishaw will be back on the ballot.

Armishaw has called Lacombe home since the '70's, he served 6 terms on Council from 1986 to 2004, stepped away to work on his business and then was elected again in 2013.

His janitorial supplies business has afforded him the opportunity to connect with residents on a daily basis and he says he has heard a clear mandate in a few areas.

“The people out on the street want to see more retail opportunity, that’s number 1.  We can only encourage developers; truly show them that we have an open door policy and work with them as best we can and we have quite well in the past.  People are saying when are we going to change the speed limit on Highway 2A”.

Armishaw says others would like to see changes in the way the city looks after bylaw services.

In terms of the new elected Council, Armishaw says he would like to see some changes, starting with how Council and Administration work together.

“Hopefully new Council can give them clear direction on what we want to see, I would like to see a little more openness in the way we are doing business, better discussions”.

The self-described home body is proud of Council's accomplishments in his most recent term, noting the improvements to the arena, more parking at the Lacombe Memorial Centre and some more behind the scene's work.

“Last Council worked on the Municipal Sustainability Plan, we worked on a lot of plans, we re-vamped the Land Use Bylaw, a huge undertaking, we did a new Intermunicipal Plan with the County, a Greenspaces Plan, and so I’m proud to be a part of a city that is looking well into the future”.
