If you feel like taking on a bigger role in helping to keep our community safe and crime free, there is a meeting Wednesday (Jan. 24th) of the Lacombe Community Watch Association that might be for you.

The LCWA is made up of Citizens on Patrol, Block Parent, and the Neighbourhood Watch, and has been keeping an eye on Lacombe neighbourhoods since the groups combined back in 2014, with past Mayor Steve Christie as well former police Chief Steve Murray providing their support at the time.

Since then, they've became a registered non-profit, with about 95 total volunteers participating in one or more of those fully operational groups.

President of the LCWA Debbi Gallant says they are hoping to add some more members to their organization at the meeting.

“Everyone is welcome, we will be discussing the year in review, and also a little bit of a recruitment blitz. We’ve got some changes coming up on the board and we would love to have people come out and learn more about us and take part in the program, participate as a board member, whatever they like.”

Gallant says this wouldn’t have been possible with the continued support of the City of Lacombe and the LPS.

“We’ve got such amazing support with the LPS, and now with 911 being here, it’s just great when associations that are safe community minded and crime watch orientated can actually just be the eyes and ears of the police. It’s really helpful.”

The meeting is at 7pm in the Community Room of the Lacombe Police Station, and is open to anyone wanting to join either organization, or looking to get more information on the group.
