Virtual Reality Arcades are the latest trend sweeping the nation, and Lacombe is now home to one.

The Gallery Virtual Reality Arcade has opened its doors in downtown Lacombe in the former Gallery on Main location, next to Home Hardware.

You can now escape the real world and literally step foot into a cartoon, a combat zone, spend some time in space, even take an adventure trek to the top of a mountain, all thanks to VR.

Sebastian Oanã is the owner, he says words can't describe the virtual reality experience "it's immersive, you're into the game, it's matrix, you've got to put it on to really get a feel for it, it's really natural, all your body movements, the way you look, you're basically switching into VR with everything you are doing in real life.  So if you're in a room eating a sandwich or moving around, you put that head set on, the exact same movements mimics".

Oanã says don't be fooled, it's truly an experience, not just for gamers "my 69 year old Dad, he owns a flip phone, he doesn't text and I can't get him off of it".

Using antiques he's transformed the space to look like "a post apocalyptic type of fall out game".

The experience will set you back $25 an hour.
