Earlier in May, the Lacombe Firefighters Association launched Project Paraguay.

Last Friday, the project took another step towards completion as both the firetruck and equipment-filled crates were shipped off to Vancouver.

What will happen when the equipment gets to Paraguay? Lacombe Fire Department's Captain Eric Nicholas says some crew members will follow the shipment and provide training in the various regions.

“What we intend to dedicate is at least a week's worth of our time to train them on the truck, as well as spending a couple days at each other department we dedicate to training as well.”

Nicholas says, the training they have done, in just one day, was a large benefit for the different departments.

“The last trip that we made, we had a full day where eight departments gained benefit from training, but we essentially did a large, drill-based, training day.”

According to him, the project should be heading to Paraguay, from Vancouver, during June.
