The City of Red Deer has upped their game with their new online transit application.

The "Mybus" app lets you see in real time how long it would take you to get from point A to point B, as well as where the bus is along the entire length of the bus route.

“If you are at city hall and you want to go to Collicut Centre you would put city hall as your location and Collicut Centre as your destination,” explains George Penny, who is the transit manager for the city.

“It will calculate where the next bus you need to take is, if you need to walk to a certain bus stop, it will give you the distance, it will tell you when the next bus will arrive and what time you will get to your destination.”

Penny says this new system will be perfect for visitors coming in for the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

“Visitors can go take a look and say okay well I want to go and watch ice hockey, how do I get there, do I have to book a taxi or can I use transit,” says Penny.

The application is mobile-friendly and will hopefully help those attending the games to navigate the city with ease but also the residents of Red Deer that use transit on the daily.

The program displays the latest bus routes and schedules, as well as any service disruptions that may affect travel.

“It just allows visitors to get around the city in a much more effective way without having to drive.”
