Town Council of Ponoka recently approved the Rotary's Club project for a large flag pole located at their West entrance.

The flag pole would fly a 9 by 18 foot Canada flag in honour of Canada's 150th birthday.

CAO Albert Flootman says there is a nice green space next to the town electronic sign where the flag pole will be placed.

"It will be located at the corner of Highway 53 and Highway 2A. There is currently a Town of Ponoka electronic sign there, it will be located in that same green space with the sign, so it will be a very visible location at the West entrance to town. The Rotary Club of Ponoka is paying for it. It's a Canada 150 project they have taken on, and it's a gift to the community from Rotary. Of course flags do wear out because of weather, and the Rotary Club has committed to replace the flag on an as needed basis".

Town Council approved a one thousand dollar donation to the flag pole, as well as other community businesses donating money and supplies.

They are hoping to have the flag installed by July 1st.
