From the Town of Ponoka:

Ponoka residents are invited to join the celebration and cheer on our local torchbearers on Thursday, February 7 as the 2019 MNP Canada Games Torch Relay stops in Ponoka.

Ten torchbearers will carry the torch through Ponoka on a 5.9 km route (see map below), beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Ponoka Stampede grounds and returning back to the Stampede grounds about an hour later.

The public is invited tojoin us at a formal ceremony and celebration afterwards at the Stagecoach Saloon at 12:30 p.m.

The torch relay will pass through Downtown Ponoka along 50 St. before winding its way past Ponoka Secondary Campus,Ponoka Elementary School and St. Augustine School as it circles back to the Stampede grounds.

Nine Local Torchbearers

Come and cheer on our local torchbearers as they carry the torch on its last leg of a national journey that began at the Centennial Flame in Ottawa and toured through almost 50 other communities before arriving in Ponoka.

The ten local torchbearers who will carry the 2019 MNP Winter Games Torch through Ponoka on Feb. 7 are:

Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett, Jayden Crane, Calvin David, Chad Harden, Nolan Lee, Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Ron Orr, Maddison Pearman, Shawna Pearman, Tegan Poitras, Kaeleigh Boston.

Ponoka is the final stop on the national torch relay before the torch arrives in Red Deer for the opening of the 2019 Canada Winter Games on Feb. 15.

“As co-sponsors of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, the Town of Ponoka and the Ponoka Stampede were selected as the final stop on the torch relay when all the excitement is reaching its peak just before the Games begin the following week,” says Ponoka Mayor Rick Bonnett.
