There was no shortage of support in Lacombe Sunday morning for this year’s Terry Fox Run.

The cool weather didn’t stop people from making their way to Cranna Lake to support cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation.

With the very first Terry Fox Run taking place in 1981, the foundation has raised over $715 million in his name, not including this year’s run.

14-year-old Abbey Rapske, who ran for her aunt Donna after she passed away from cancer a couple of years ago, has done her part by raising just over $1,000 this year.

It’s the ninth year in a row where she has raised money for the foundation.

“I really want there to be a cure for cancer because so many people are dying and are affected by the loss of their loved ones. It’s just so sad.”

From Edmonton, to Calgary, to Bentley and Lacombe, the Shaw family reunites each year to take part in the event, something Craig Shaw said is extremely important to them.

“Since our mom passed away in 2007, we’ve carried the torch after that and it’s a great family gathering now. We all think a lot of Terry Fox.”
