The Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) have reviewed the footage of an alleged assault that took place at a rally hosted by Rural Alberta Against Racism on Septemeber 20th, 2020.

After viewing numerous videos from varying angles of the assault and conducting witness interviews, RCMP identified three separate criminal incidents that took place at the demonstration.

The first incident occurred prior to RCMP arriving to the demonstration. The incident occurred while organizers were arriving to set-up for the event.

42-year-old Trevor Lyle Roy has been charged in relation to the first incident and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on November 17th, 2020.

The second incident was captured by video during the demonstration. RCMP did not witness the assault but took action as they became aware of it by separating the opposing parties.

Red Deer RCMP GIS have requested a summons charging an individual with assault with a weapon as captured by bystanders. At this time, the name of the accused cannot be released until the summons has been issued by the courts. The name of the accused will become available at a later date.

The third incident was uncovered through RCMP investigation supported by video evidence and continues to be under investigation.

The RCMP continues to review video evidence at this time and would like to thank all those who have been cooperative with their investigation.
