With plans to more aggressively promote tourism in the West Country, 3 municipalities teamed up to create a regional strategy brand and logo.

David Thompson Country is the result of 18 months of efforts by the Town of Rocky Mountain House, the Village of Caroline and Clearwater County, who will be promoting tourism to the region using the tagline "Challenge Your Inner Explorer", much like explorer David Thompson did back in the 1800's.

Dean Schweder with the Town of Rocky Mountain House says David Thompson Country is a great alternative to the large crowds in Banff and Jasper, and they hope to grow tourism opportunities in the region “ideally we would love to see more operators move to the area and set up shop and ideally that spins off to them looking for employees. We do have a goal of product development within the region whether that is B&B’s, or that’s activities or adventure companies wanting to come to the area and setting up”.

Schweder says work is underway on a website for the region; they've launched a Facebook Page and You Tube Channel.

Planning is also underway for a re-enactment of the Centennial Voyageur Canoe Pageant which launched on the North Saskatchewan River at Rocky Mountain House in 1967 as part of Canada 150 celebrations.

David Thompson Country is a large area, covering more than 18,000 square kilometers with many well-known attractions like Nordegg, Crimson Lake, Burnstick Lake and the Bighorn Back Country.
