Helping children with food allergies feel included this Halloween is the goal of the Teal Pumpkin project.

The project encourages people to hand out something other than candy in order to raise awareness about the growing number of kids with allergies.

Director of Advocacy with Food Allergy Canada, Beatrice Povolo says there are many alternatives for people to consider "things maybe like stickers, yoyo's, little glow sticks, bracelets for the girls, a number of different things that you would likely find in your average party store that might be fun for the kids to get. It's something for them to be able to play with and still be able to take part in the Halloween festivities".

Povolo adds, those who wish to participate can leave a teal pumpkin on their doorstep or download a poster from the Food Allergy Canada website.

A number of homes in Blackfalds are participating, visit Teal Pumpkin Project to view the map.
