In hopes to boost tourism, corporate travel agents from Calgary and the Edmonton area were invited to spend the weekend in Sylvan Lake.

It wasn’t the weather they were hoping for, but the rain didn’t stop the town from showing off some of Sylvan’s best attractions.

Included in the Familiarization tour, 18 travel agents were shown some of the town’s hot spots such as Lakefront Park, local pubs, the wood shed and the new NexSource Centre.

Keri Pratt , Vice President for the Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce, who partnered up with town on the initiative along with Days Inn, said she it’s a great way to promote the town.

“The idea was to help to promote Sylvan Lake. There’s a of lot neat things to do in Sylvan Lake and I don’t know if everyone from Calgary and Edmonton are aware of the neat things Sylvan Lake has to offer with the lake and some of the other activities that are here.”

“We wanted to bring them hear and show them."

Vicki Kurz, Executive Development Officer with the Town of Sylvan Lake, said tourism is great in the summer, but would like to have visitors all year-round.

“We are looking for ways to expand our seasons beyond our summer season. We are looking at fall and spring acitvities.”

The new NexSource Centre is being suggested as place to host corporate retreats, training sessions, workshops and trade shows.
