The Sylvan Lake Municipal Library is offering an opportunity for youth seeking volunteer hours. Due to the pandemic, some students may have a difficult time finding organizations to earn volunteer hours.

The library has partnered with local schools to create student-authored book reviews. However, home schooled students can also take part in the program.

“This program provides the youth in our community with an opportunity for safe and meaningful volunteer experiences,” said Corrie Brown, Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Programmer.

Each book review is about two to four paragraphs and youth may receive one hour of volunteer time for each review.

“Any youth is welcome to participate, even if they don't have volunteer hours to fill. We want to promote and celebrate the books that youth are reading,” said Brown.

Students interested in the opportunity can email the library at sylvan.library@prl.ab.ca or call 403-887-2130.
