On Saturday (May 26), the town of Sylvan Lake hosted its first annual, "Team up to Clean up" event.

At 9 am, citizens and volunteers came forward early in the morning at Centiennial Park to make a plan of action for the clean-up and target the areas they wanted to clean.

Mayor Sean McIntyre was also there to help.

He knows that litter is discouraging for the residents of Sylvan Lake, and aims to make the lake a great place for everyone to enjoy this summer

"When you get a lot of people working together, many hands make light work, we'll put in a couple hours this morning and it (the lake) will be looking great afterward".

A few first-timers showed up at the event as well.

Lyle Ketchur, a fairly new Sylvan Lake citizen, has helped out in Sylvan Lake before he decided to live there, but this is his first clean-up event as a citizen.

He says keeping the city clean is important to he and his wife, and they plan on continuing to help the community as much as they can.

"This is our home now, and we want to keep our home clean," he says.

Not just Sylvan Lake, but also various areas around Lacombe County participated as well to clean the entire shoreline around the lake.
