Sylvan Lake Town Council has expressed interest in becoming an Axia Fibrenet #FibreTown.

Fibre technology is the most advanced and efficient technology to enable digital connectivity and Axia is working to deliver the new technology to the doorsteps of rural Albertans in 40 new FibreTowns.

Sylvan's Economic Development Officer Vicki Kurz says it would be a great tool in attracting new investment, solving some current issues for the business community.

“Certainly more speed options, you can send larger documents, right now we’re kind of restricted with respect to the professional, technical, scientific services sector, because they can’t often send large documents through the current services”.

Kurz says the process is just starting; they now need 30% of serviceable addresses to express interest with Axia.

“We are merely at the 1st stage of the process, we just are really interested in gauging the community on the level of interest they have in a better connectivity and so of course my job is to attract investment to the community in the form of new businesses and of course this would be of interest to us”.

11 communities have already signed up with Axia to become a #FibreTown.

Axia promises affordable unlimited data with no hidden costs, light speed uploads and downloads and constant connectivity.
