There's some grateful hearts in Sylvan Lake as the Community Food Bank is all settled into their new location thanks to some help from Lacombe based A Better World and their Neighbours Project.

An opportunity came up this summer for the Food Bank to move out of the basement of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and into a modular space, formerly used as a pre-school at Four Season Park.

Long-time food bank volunteer Pam Towers says some work needed to be done to have it suit their needs and Neighbours volunteers jumped in to help.

“The credit goes for the renovations to the Neighbours, because they did such a good job, it was a beautiful thing that they did”.

The new space and having it set up to meet their needs has made a world of difference according to Towers.

“Because our access (in the church) to the basement had 7 stairs, and we get so much support from the Sylvan Lake community and each week we collect food from the stores. They bring it in on a truck and it would have to be carried down the basement stairs and then in turn we would make up hampers and they would have to be carried up the stairs, so the stairs problem was a big thing”.

Towers says the entry to the new space is beautiful, there's improved parking at Four Seasons Park, and logistically there's more ease for both the community to donate and patrons to access the service.

The Food Bank contributed the money for supplies while A Better World's Neighbours project completed the renovation.
