Sending the best regards to the newly established music program launched at the Lacombe Junior High School this year, Sunny 94 donated $2,198.00 to help support the process.

Excited to better teach students music, Junior High Band Teacher, Sandy Merek described what the money would be used for.

"We're looking at purchasing ten flutes, five more clarinets, two trombones, and about six trumpets."

Merek says that there is a roughly 90 students between 4fourclasses, and the school is working towards each of those students having their own instruments in order to avoid sharing mouthpieces.

Also taking into consideration are things like general instrument upkeep and maintenance. Merek says getting to that point is an expensive endeavor and could cost upwards of $15,000, though she is thankful for any help towards the goal.

Principal James Matthie gave a little more detail on how the Music program has been going so far.

"This year it was just for the grade seven students, but next year it will expand into grade 8 and 9... we had 60 students go through the program this year, and we will have 250 students in the program next year."

He says the donation helped create both a brass and wind program for the students and in about three years, he expects to see the students performing at events and for the community.
