It's a bittersweet day for Lacombe Mayor Steve Christie.

After 13 years serving Lacombe at the municipal level, he's set to step aside as voters will decide on a brand new Mayor today at the polls.

Christie says he has thoroughly enjoyed his time and most of all he's grateful for the experience and progress he was a part of.

“I was the 1st elected Mayor in the City of Lacombe, we became a City in September of 2010 and I was elected Mayor in October. There’s been a lot of great things happen in the City of Lacombe, and I’ve been a part of 4 different Council’s. Just thank-you to each and every one of them, when I first came on, some of my mentors and to those that served with me in the last term, just thank-you, very, very much”.

Christie says being a part of a group of people that has helped Lacombe become the place it is today is a huge honour.

He is proud of his time in office and indebted to everyone he's met along the way.

“I think I am happy with how I am passing the condition of the City, as I pass that on, and I just want to recognize and thank everybody from way, way back when, I think I am the 26th Mayor of Lacombe and it took a lot of people, a lot of Council’s, a lot of administration and a lot of staff to make it what it is today”.

Some of the highlights during his 13 years as part of Council according to Christie include the LMC project, redevelopment of Highway 2A, the new wastewater line, arena renovation, and most recently moving ahead with services to the new West Area development.
