The state of local emergency has been officially lifted from the City of Red Deer, after Tuesday’s windstorm left many residents and businesses without power.

The announcement was made just before midnight last night.

“We are happy to say that the worst is behind us,” said Mayor Tara Veer. “We have some cleanup work to do, and can now move back into regular operations.”

The state of local emergency was first declared Tuesday, following widespread power outages, which affected about 35 per cent of residents across the city, and fallen trees, due to an extreme windstorm.

For any further updates, the City says you should continue to monitor local media such as the City’s website, Facebook and Twitter.
